GENERAL

Who is UnOrphaned?

UnOrphaned is a non-profit, crowdfunding platform that connects families who want to adopt with children who need loving homes.

 

Why use UnOrphaned to fundraise?

  • UnOrphaned has found that donors are much more generous when they can support a family through an IRS approved 501c3 organization like UnOrphaned Foundation.

  • Some donors have access to Corporate Matching Gift programs through their employer. Employers will match a donation to an IRS approved 501(c)(3) organization. However, many Corporate Matching Gift programs will not donate to a religious 501(c)(3) organization.

MAKING DONATIONS

How do I donate?

You can give by clicking the "give" button, typing in the amount you want to give, and then entering your credit or debit card information. Make sure you check the circle that says, “I want UnOrphaned Foundation to pay the fee," and then press the green “give” button. The pray.com site conforms to the highest set of security standards in the payment card industry so your giving is safe and secure. 

Do donations go directly to the family?

UnOrphaned families are able to raise money by crowdfunding and by store purchases. These monies are applied directly to each family’s expenses. Funds are sent directly to the family’s adoption agency. 

 

How much of my donation goes to the family?

There is no charge for a family to create a profile. A 2.9% transaction cost is deducted from all donations. The transaction cost covers charges incurred from processing credit cards and other administrative costs. If you would like to donate directly to UnOrphaned, please click here.

Can I donate cash?

No, unfortunately there is no way to provide a receipt for a tax write off. We accept checks and credit card donations.

Can I donate by check?

Yes! When donors send in checks it is vital that you do not include the family’s name in the check’s memo line. Checks can be mailed to:

Can we donate to our own profile?

Yes. However, you should consult your tax professional with regards to the tax deduction of this donation.

Do I get a receipt after donating?

Yes, you get a receipt shortly after you donate using a credit card. If you donate $250 or more by check, we will send you a receipt at the end of the year. You can always email us at unorphaned@unorphaned.net and ask us for a copy!

Do donors need to create an account to donate?

Yes, you can download the app to create your account here. Reasons why an account is created for donors:

  • It allows donors to give a second donation easily and quickly because their payment information is tied to their account.

  • It allows donors to view transactional history, as well as download their monthly and year-end statements.

  • Donors can edit any personal information as well as set privacy levels for what information is passed to the fundraiser organizer.

 

When are payments posted?

Credit card donations are posted within 7 days; check donations are posted as they are received and processed.

Do you accept donations from international donors?

Yes! However, the only non-US donations our system can accept are those tied to major banks that can process funds in USD and that allow AVS security. If your card aligns with these standards, choose your country in the drop-down menu on the donation page and make sure the address matches the billing address of the card you are using.

 

If you continue to have problems donating, please check that your email address aligns with traditional TLDs like .com, .org, .net, .edu, .gov, .mil. Accounts cannot be set up with any variation outside of these domains.

Can I edit or cancel my monthly donation?

You can cancel your monthly contribution at any time. Just contact us at unorphaned@unorphaned.net and we’ll help you cancel your donation.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. UnOrphaned is an IRS approved 501c3 organization. You should consult your tax advisor for specific tax advice.

MOBILE GIVING WITH PRAY.COM

With 80% of the U.S. population actively using smartphones, mobile giving is on the rise. On average, community members give 20% more through mobile than through other channels.

 

Pray.com provides a simple and secure way for UnOrphaned to receive gifts. Automated and seamless, our mobile giving platform lives within your pray.com community. You can place a trustworthy and trackable giving platform at everyone's fingertips.

How does it work?

Once you are a member in the UnOrphaned Foundation community, you can give by clicking the give button, entering the amount, selecting the one time or recurring gift, and then entering your credit or debit card information one time. That's it! Card information is securely stored for recurring gifts.

 

After the first donation, you'll receive an email the Friday following with all donor/donation details, and first payout will reach your account 7-10 days from day of donation. The donor will receive an email upon donation, and can check their gifts in the app under their account as well.

Is my community eligible?

Yes! We can connect your UnOrphaned account to the pray.com giving feature. While 501(c)(3) status is necessary for tax-deductible gifts, any account can be connected, allowing you to receive donations at any time.

CREATING A FAMILY ADOPTION PROFILE

Confirm Your Account

In order to create a family profile on our website, we would ask that you fill out a Family Adoption Profile. Click here to be taken to a form where you can enter your family information.

How long does it take to get a profile live?

When you fill out your information, we will provide you with an adoption profile on our site. As soon as it is uploaded, we will send you an email confirming that your profile has gone live!

How much does it cost?

There is no charge for a family to create a profile. A 5% transaction cost is deducted from all donations. The transaction cost covers charges incurred from processing credit cards and other administrative costs.

 

How long can we keep our profile up?

As long as there is a need to raise adoption expenses, we encourage families to continue updating their profile with videos, blogs, etc. Fundraising may continue even after you’ve brought your child home!

RECEIVING FUNDS

How do I request a grant?

Ready to request a disbursement of funds for your adoption fundraiser? Submit the amount needed to UnOrphaned at unorphaned@unorphaned.net.

 

How long does it take to get a grant awarded?

Individual's grants are reviewed regularly by the Board, normally once per month. After the Board has approved the grant requests, it can take 5-10 business days for the check to arrive.

What kind of documentation is needed for grant requests?

When applying for an individual grant from UnOrphaned, you must attach invoices and/or receipts to substantiate your incurred adoption expenses to support the grant request. When requesting a grant to be paid directly to an adoption agency, no additional documentation is required.
